I cannot believe Christmas is already over and it is almost 2010. Where did this year go?

We woke up early Christmas eve and headed for Nashville! The weather was decent (just rain) and the traffic was actually light, so we made great time!

A family friend holds an annual Christmas Eve brunch, so we crashed, I mean, attended with my mom!

Then we had only a few hours to rest and get ready for the nights festivities! We had a quiet dinner with just my family but I think I ate enough twice baked potatoes to last a life time! Oh well, calories don't count at Christmas, right?!

We quickly changed and got ready for 7 pm Mass!

Mr. Mrs. Claus!

The sweetest! I would keep him if they'd let me!

Brothers! Will is such an awesome big brother too!

My brother and his family! What a nice lookin bunch!

After Mass, we came back home to have dessert and exchange gifts!

Spending time with my favorite Godson was the best gift (of course I enjoyed Will too)!!

We are blessed more than words...hope you all had a wonderful Christmas too!

Baking Fun!

So today I was channeling my inner semi-homemade-Sandra Lee (because everything-from-scratch- Martha is overrated!), and decided to bake cookies for Ben to take to work tomorrow!

I started off with the pre-cut Christmas shaped cookies:

Baked at 350 for 10.5 minutes! Then got out my nifty wire rack to let them cool! You know, when I was told to register for these racks I thought I'd never use 'em...well, proved me wrong!

Then onto icing. Now, I guess I should have made sure I actually HAD icing before I started this project (the package did come with one thing of red icing), but that would have required forethought! I did manage to find pink and blue. I guess I could've set a trend for a new Christmas colors, but I decided to stick with mostly red. I threw in a few blue on the Snowmen though to be festive!

I also decided to make our stocking cookies mimic our real stockings by putting our initials! My E turned out nicely, the, not so much!

Here's the first half of my baking fun! Yes, the icing looks like my 3 year old nephew did them, but hey a bunch of men wont mind, will they??

Merry Christmas!!

Zoo lights!

We had a nice double date with our friends the Howards to the Memphis Zoo lights! Ben and I have lived in Memphis for roughly 2 years and still haven't been to the zoo...oops! Every year they deck out the zoo and open up at night for fun!

In front of the huge tree!

When you first walked in they had an area set up for you to "meet" a couple of the animals! They had a HUGE red tail boa and a red tail eagle (forget their proper names)! The boa was awesome, but Ben doesn't do snakes so this is as close as he got to it (behind the camera)!! The skin was so smooth and soft!

They have a neat area where you walk around on a raised platform and one side is wolves and the other elk!

kinda looks like Memphis girl huh?!

As you walk up the raised wood walkway to see the animals, there was a neat waterfall! Of course we had to have our photo taken! ;)

This sweet little sheep didn't move a muscle! We tried to get him to come closer in order to pet, but he knew we didn't have anything for him so stood still! :)

I'm not sure how Santa will get to town with out these two Reindeer!!

They have a neat Native American area!

Some lights!

After walking around for a while, we worked up an appetite! The Howards introduced us to Soul Food Cafe and all I have to say is YUM! They have the best catfish!!

We had a ton of fun and can't wait to go back to the zoo (when all the exhibits are open)!

Christmas card!

I love receiving and sending Christmas cards! This year, I found a nice lady on Etsy who made cute cards so I thought I'd create one with her!

Here's our 2009 Christmas card!

and just for fun, I made one for the girls! I didn't mail these out, but thought I'd share!

Merry Christmas!

Fun post

I'm one of those odd people who actually enjoy filling out paper work (dr's offices etc), lists and whatnot , so when I found this on a random blog I had to post it!

A little Christmas list for you:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? This year is a bag year!

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? neither! I have "twigs"! B said "what the heck is that"! But, I like it!!

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Growing up we never were allowed to open on the Eve...but now, we started a tradition where we go to Mass, come home, eat and open gifts on Christmas Eve! I like it!!

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? TRAFFIC.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? bright red and green

24. Favorite thing for Christmas dinner? Usually that we have something other than turkey etc. Usually beef or pork! yum

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? I really want it to be January 17 so we could be sailing away on our ship....

Now it's your turn. Go ahead and fill out your own answers and post on your blog!

Dixie Belle.....

is THREE today!

Here's the birthday girl!
(yes I'm one of "those" people who have a bday hat for their dogs! lol)

She tried knocking it off, but it got stuck on her ear! She looks so pitiful!

I cannot believe how fast these last few years have zipped by!

Here she was at 8 weeks. I'm still shocked she was ever this small!! I'm so glad the puppy year is behind us though...teething was the pits!

Here she only a few months old and already with her water addiction (she had just "attacked" the hose)!

Enjoying the last few months as a 2 year old!

At 3:
You weigh: 75llbs (roughly)
You are a typical teenager and have selective listening.
You know "sign language" (stop, no and we made up one for sit b/c I didn't know the proper one!).
You are still addicted to all things water.
You are loved!

Happy birthday sweet-when-you-want-to-be girl! ;)

your people

O' Christmas Tree

A blog I found (Thrifty Decor Chick...b/c I need all the help on thrifty decorating) is hosting a "Christmas tree" party!

I really like our tree this year, even though is far from perfect! It looks a little empty of ornaments, but we're trying to add them each year!

Here are a few of my favorites:

The first ornament as an "F"!

My uncle LOVED to decorate for Christmas. He would have a different theme for his tree every year and go all out! He passed away last September, and I was fortunate to get a few of his beautiful ornaments. This ornament was apparently from his school (he was a Principal), and it means a lot to have it on our tree! Its like he's with us...

I found this ornament the Christmas after B graduated from the Academy! It'll be a great way to remember when he graduated when we're old and gray!

I graduated December 15, 2007 and for a graduation gift my mom and I went to NYC! I found this ornament at Saks Fifth Avenue and had to get it (since I was going to be a "Fish" that April!)

Last year was our first married Christmas! A sweet friend of mine made us this ornament with our wedding picture in it! It will be treasured for years to come!

Our tree...

Door tour!

Today I thought I'd participate in the "door tour" over at GOG's blog!

My door is um, shall we say, boring! I'd love to decorate around our door next year with garland and lights, so hopefully I'll steal, I mean, borrow some good ideas from the tour!

Here's my plain Jane door:

A divine weekend..

This weekend Ben's mom and grandmother came down to visit! We planned a day trip to Halls, TN (about an hour away from Memphis) to visit where they grew up and to eat at a wonderful tea room!

We had a fun weekend and hope to do it again soon!

The tea room was actually an old church! Ben's mom and grandma actually attended it when it was a small church, which is very neat! It has since been revamped and added onto, but it still has a lot of the old charm/character!

The ladies (Ben's grandma, cousin and mother)

Part of the main church..

This was actually one of the original Sunday school room!

Halls, TN is a small town west of Memphis.

We then drove another 15 miles to Hale's Point, where they grew up!
It is literally right on the Mississippi River and the houses (there aren't that many now) had to be built on stilts b/c it flooded! Ben's grandmother remembers having to take a boat to school due to the flood! There are tons of acres of farm land, mostly commercial now!

(through the trees is the MS river)

Here are the trees that were in front of their house growing up!

two cottonwoods and a pecan

The barn!
Their house was either torn down or fallen etc, but their barn was still (by the Grace of God) standing!

(I love old barns!)

I love visiting small towns!
