I wish...

doing another blog hop thing....

'I wish' .... I could re-live one Easter memory from my childhood, and it would be the Easter...when my Granny and I dyed eggs at her house! I don't remember what prompted the dying session, but it was our first and last...ha! I remember we were on the kitchen floor and I can clearly remember her stating "she was getting too "old" to get on the floor". Why weren't we sitting at the table, who knows!
I thought of her fondly when I dyed eggs with the kids at school....at the table, of course!

My secret weapon...

Friday over on Kelly's Korner was about Cleaning tips etc.
Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

My number one secret weapon to cleaning: my (former) Marine!

Seriously, I'm not sure exactly what the Marine Corps does to them in bootcamp but I like it! We have one day a week where we "Field day" the house. Field days to me were happy, fun times full of games, tug-a-war, egg tosses etc! No...now it means: mopping, scrubbing toilets, showers (oops..that's a "head", I think), making the bed correctly (sharp corners-the works) etc. I still like my version a bit better!

We rotate the field day according to B's days off, but it is (usually) once a week! Sometimes, he'll get a wild hair and start cleaning at 10 PM....and I lay my happy self on the bed and watch! ;)

We vacuum our wood floors daily, swiffer several times a week because the two dogs insist on shedding. B's mom gave us a Dirt Devil Kruz vacuum for hardwoods and it works great for the dog hair! Plus, it is kinda cute too!

I hate dishes in the sink, especially since our dishwasher is literally an arm's length away. Our rule though is: if you cook, you do not do the dishes! Works for us!

So there ya go....just go out, get ya a Marine and you'll be good to go!

Guilty...

http://mcclintockb.blogspot.com/2010/03/friday-fives_26.html
This week's Friday Fives is about your Guilty Pleasures:

Mine:

1. Little Debbie's:

Right now, my favorites are the Zebra cakes. It was almost WW3 in the Fishbowl the other day when B ate the last one!

2. TV:
I love me some reality TV especially Project Runway (I'm jealous b/c I can't sew a button!), Real Houswives of...(everyone but ATL), and most of the shows on TLC (I never liked J&K+8 though)!

3. Target:
I seriously had to limit myself from going there because I could go in for one thing and come out with a ton! Our budget and Target are no longer on speaking terms!

4. Jim-N-Nicks BBQ:
Well, for now at least! I've always been weird when it comes to food. I'll seriously crave something for months and that is literally all I want. In college it was grilled cheese and my poor roommate Vanessa had to make 'em for me! Sandwiches always taste better when someone else makes them!!

Recently it was Pei Wei's kids teriyaki Chicken! But...here lately I literally crave Jim-N-Nick's bbq sandwich, fries and sweet tea!

I really can't think of a fifth one. I'm sure as soon as this is posted I will, but for now it is Friday Four! Sorry!

(all photos were found via google!)

Fill in the blank...

http://thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com/
A neat blog I found has a "Fill in the Blank Friday" post hop that looked neat! I thought I'd give it a try:

1. The best piece of advice I was ever given was: Pretty is as Pretty does, from my beautiful and brilliant Grandmother!

2. If I had a million dollars to give to one charity I would give it to: American Cancer Society

3. If I got to choose my "last meal" it would be: My mom's pot roast, whipped potatoes, green bean casserole, Sister Shuberts rolls and Becker's Bakery fudge pie and a few of their honey cookies! With sweet tea to wash it down!
Hey...it's my last meal, I'm going all out!

4. My hair: needs a cut!

5. If at first you don't succeed: try again. (I'm not very creative!)

6. I have always been very: family oriented.

7. Oh....and by the way.... it is almost EASTER...which means Lent is almost over. Which means I can have my cokes back! It has about killed me to give them up for 40 whole days!

Let there be light!

My brother's new house had the neatest, oldest chandelier in the usedtobe dining room! It wasn't really working with the new layout etc, so my mom took it to use in her house! Well....it didn't work in my parent's bathroom as she thought, so she gave it to me!

I was thrilled, because I secretly coveted it but mom had first dibs!

Our guest bedroom was with out a ceiling light fixture since the painters took the old, brass, ugly one down when we purchased the place! Yeah, we just had two bare light bulbs hanging down...really pretty let me tell ya!

I'm embarrassed we allowed visitors over to see this site:

So, I was thrilled to have the beautiful chandelier, but it needed some "updating"! So, I spray painted it with a hammered metal type spray paint in black!

before:

Well...after a few months of procrastinating, B and I finally decided to hang the light up! We were missing the part that attaches to the ceiling and holds the chandelier up, so we hauled the whole thing to the local light store. Thankfully they had the correct part! The light guy actually thought the light had been in a fire since it was black! I informed him that it was just spray paint! He never thought to spray paint an old light...I guess it wouldn't be good for his business!

Ben taking down the old "light":

Finally...after:
(I don't normally have that big picture of us on that chair!)

Also, since we're on the subject of spray paint and lights:

This past summer I decided to take down our entry way light and spray paint it in brush nickle. I'm almost done debrassifying our house! Knowing my luck though, as soon as we get all the brass down, it will be back in style....but not my style!

Before:

After:

I wanted to purchase a new fixture, but couldn't find one at Lowes and didn't want to pay a pretty penny for the ones at our local light store! So, for 4 bucks of spray paint, I have a "new" fixture! Works for us...

Let there be light and of course... spray paint!!

weekend fun!

Yesterday my parents came down for a weekend visit! We decided to take them to the Pink Palace to experience some Memphis history!

http://www.memphismuseums.org/

The Pink Palace is a neat place that houses several museums, mostly with local artifacts etc. The actual "pink palace" was Clarence Saunders', the founder of Piggly Wiggly, mansion!

They had the prettiest woman's clothes from over the years!
I want this muffler!

They had an exhibit on Chocolate!
We all craved it before we left, so we hit up
Krogers and purchased enough
sweets to last a lifetime!
ha!

B and I sitting on two peanut butter cups!

They had a full scale replica of the first Piggly Wiggly!
I was amazed to see the prices and at how long
some companies have been around!

Mom and Dad after the long shoppin' trip
at the Piggly Wiggly!

An old time Dentist office.
I'm glad technology has improved dentistry!

Holiday Inn was founded in Memphis!

I took a ton of photos, but won't bore you with the rest! It was neat seeing so much Tennessee and Memphis history!

After our history lesson, we ventured to the Soul Fish Cafe in Midtown and ate our selves silly! We went back to our house and took the dogs for a looong walk to burn off some of those calories though!

We had a fun weekend showing the parentals around and seeing the sights!

HAPPY SPRING!

Puppy Love

(well, more like two dogs who act like puppies!)

Since it was a gorgeous day yesterday, we decided to spend a while playing with the dogs! I borrowed my parents' nice DSLR camera, and I'm slowly trying to figure the sucker out! Props to the professionals out there....that fancy camera is confusing! I decided to take the girls March photos while we were out there! (Yes, I try to take photos of them each month...weird, I know!)

Anyways...onto the love!

Dixie Belle

Ben and (2) his girls!
They're smiling...too cute!

Memphis Girl and myself!

Ben took over the camera.

We tried to get one of the three girls...well...

Dixie cooperated nicely.

Memphis flopped down.

This is the result (MG is who we're looking towards)!

Not puppy related, but I snapped this one of B
and LOVE it!

Honestly, there's nothin' like puppy love! These dogs love us, even when we don't deserve it!

I guess we love 'em too!

Bucket list...

This week's Friday Five is about your bucket list!

A bucket list is all the things you want to do before you "kick the bucket"!

Mine:

1. Visit every single state.

I've practically been to all the Southern states, but I need to head out N.West and East.

2. Cruise the world!
I don't necessarily want to go on a "World Cruise", but I want to visit every single port a cruise ship visits! (well...maybe not every one!)

3. Zipline.
My parents actually beat me to this one and I can't hardly believe it! I'm a thrill seeker (bungee jumped, parasailed etc) so this seems like so much fun!

4. Take cooking and photography classes!
I would love to learn more about both!

5. Have children....

...and not screw 'em up too badly! :)

(Photos were found online...they are not mine!)

Double Date!

Saturday we ventured to Nashville for our friends wedding!

The wedding was at 2 o'clock and I have to hand it to the Protestants...we were out of there by 2:30! It was a simple and sweet ceremony and they had a dessert reception afterwards! I'm all for sweets!
the new Mr. and Mrs.!

Friends: Dave, Justin (son Christian) and Ben at reception!

After the wedding, we met with my mom and dad and went on a double date! We ate at Amerigo's (an Italian restaurant) and enjoyed every second! We had to fight the SEC tourney crowds, but at least they weren't too rowdy!

The four of us!

Mom and Dad! They make pretty good double daters!

Yours truly!

After we (well, me mostly) ate waaay to much, we decided to stretch our legs and walk down to the new Hutton Hotel! Since, B and I are "tourists" now in Nashville, I went all out and took photos etc! It could've been that second glass of wine, but who knows...ha! The hotel was GORGEOUS! I'm not sure I'd pay 200 a night for it, but the lobby was beautiful/hip/modern!

It had the neatest bean bag chair!
I totally want one for our house now!

Saving lives...one pint at a time!

(wow, 3 posts in one day...new record!)

This week over on Kelly's Korner is about charities.

I hate to admit, but I don't donate financially to any one charity (or charities) like I should. I do, however, donate my time and blood! I started donating when I was 17 and try to donate at least 2x's a year (more on a good year).

When we moved to the Memphis area, I couldn't find any Red Cross blood drives, but found the local (mid-south) blood bank: Life Blood. All the blood donated through them stays with in the local mid-south area, so you're helping your neighbors!

http://www.lifeblood.org/

So save a life (or 3) and donate blood! Every pint counts!

I received a call yesterday informing me they were low on my type blood. I said "I'll be in tomorrow"! Hey...it gives ya an excuse to take it easy... :)!

Can he fix it....

yes Ben can!

One reason I love Ben is because he is really handy. He can practically fix etc anything.

The other day, while driving his truck, I was pulled over by a nice Bartlett police man. I was stopped at a stop sign, so I wasn't speeding and I knew I didn't run the sign, so I had no clue why he pulled me over. He came to the window, and said "ma'am, do you normally drive this truck?" I replied "no sir, it's my husbands...". He then informed me that my headlight was out. I thanked him and told him I'd make Ben fix it asap!

I immediately called Ben (who was at work) and said "thanks a lot....I just got pulled over and it is all your fault..."

So today, he went to work:

Oh and last week I came home to an almost completely organized garage! He is slowly but surely getting "his" garage the way he wants it and I'm loving it!

I tried to get him to pose ala Vanna White,
but this is what I got instead, ha!

He put the shelves up, organized his tools, swept, hung the bike rack and the ladder!
We still have a few more things to tackle, but it looks so much better!
