progress report

We're 95% done with the tile (still have to grout and put the trim back after we're finished tiling)
via phone

18x18 tiles are HEAVY.

We've made 32 trips to Lowes (well, more like 4).

I have done countless squats and bicep curls (lifting tile) and my entire body hurts.

We've only had one incident that involved blood.

We're still married!

All in all, this project is coming along nicely.

so it begins...

I'm not exactly sure what I was smokin' when I thought tearing up our linoleum and tiling our kitchen would be "easy".'s called manual labor for a reason Emily! Ripping up the linoleum though is a good way to get one's aggression out (not that I had any, of course)!

Anyways...we've started and there is no turning back now! I have to admit though, the concrete floors look a ton better than the old, stained grody floor we had.

Stay tuned for our progress. Feel free to send free labor (and maybe hard liquor...ha!)!

It's official.

I have: filled out the paperwork, booked the hotel and even purchased some long I'm officially ready for the Mayo!

 (background info: click here)

I filled out all my paperwork and signed upteen forms (and heck, probably my life away) and now have the official documents for my appointment in March. I have to say, I'm impressed with how thorough and prepared these people are! I guess they have to be like a well oiled machine, with how big/busy they are.

I have mixed emotions about going. On one hand, I'm excited because I will hopefully come away with a game plan from a well respected Cardiologist who specializes in congenital heart defects and pregnancy and a better sense on what's going on etc. On the other, I'm still questioning (or doubting maybe) that I should even bother going. I feel like I'm already diagnosed, and have an excellent Doctor why do I need to travel to Frozen Tundra Minnesota just to meet this specialist and get the same tests done, again?  I respect my Doctor and if she truly believes (I've asked her like 4 times, are you sure? really sure? and she says "yes" each time) that I should go, then I just have to trust her.

If nothing else, I'll at least get to cross off another state (and the MOA) off my bucket list...trying to think positively! :-)

It's a good thing...

...I love him and have a sense of humor, or else this would not have been the least bit funny!
meaning the screws in my brain...
(I was at the store, saw a storage thing for his tool stuff, thought he could use it but texted to see. He was on a call and didn't get my text til after I already purchased!)

I have to admit, I did laugh when I read his response! Although, I will never tell him that!

Oh whatta night!

Friday we had  a triple date night with some wonderful friends: Leslie and her husband Sam  and Caroline and her husband Fred! It was originally going to be the monthly Memphis blogger's dinner, but due to whatever reasons, no one else could attend. We decided to get together anyways and I'm so glad we did!

We met at Old Venice Pizza which is a yummy pizza (and Italian) place that I've heard nothing but great things about! Since Ben doesn't work normal hours, it was the first time for him to meet the gang! I reminded him to be on his best behavior...ha! We quickly switched seats so the guys could be on one side and the girls on the other. No offense to the boys, but talking sports and whatnot don't really interest us!

the boys

the girls

B and I ordered a half Hog Wild (bbq pork pizza...yum) and half Americana (basic) pizza and spinach dip! I enjoyed every bite and cannot wait to go back!

After we stuffed ourselves silly, I overheard Caroline and Fred mention "YoLo" (local yogurt place), so being my rude self I invited us too! We all actually went and got some yummy yogurt! I believe there was a competition though to see who could get the most toppings on their yogurt! I think Leslie won!
gang after enjoying our yogurt!

We talked for a while longer and ultimately called it a night! Ben and I really enjoyed ourselves and we hope to do this again soon!

Gripes be Gone!

The lady who is our Bible study leader (also the Pastor's wife) mentioned a book that would be a great read for married women: "What's it like being married to me?" by Linda Dillow. I decided to get it and so far it has been a great, thought provoking read.

In the book, Mrs. Dillow references a "21 day no complaining challenge". This challenge is simple (in theory): go 21 days with out complaining. You wear a purple bracelet and if you do find yourself complaining, you move the bracelet to the other arm.

Our Bible study leader actually discussed this last night at our study and challenged the entire group to do this. This challenge will help one to make a conscious effort to be grateful, speak positively and encouraging. The one paragraph that jumped out at me was what one lady in study (who was very sick) said:

"God is good. I have been living in heaven this past week. I have not changed my bracelet over once. Nothing like another prolonged stay in the hospital and a sixth major surgery to give me a good dose of perspective. I am here. I am alive. All is well with my soul. Praise God! (Dillow, Linda. What's it like to be Married to Me?. Colorado, Springs, Co: Cook, 2011)('s been forever since I've reference something, so forgive me if it's incorrect)

Wow...I don't know if I could be that positive after all she's been through! Heck, I have hardly anything truly testing going on and I'm still not that positive.

It sounds easy, but let me tell ya it's hard! I started 24 hours ago and have had to change my bracelet several times! Before this challenge, I never thought I was that negative (or that big of a complainer). However, I have found out that it's work to be positive all the time.
found via google

If you would like to join me in the no gripes challenge....please do! (Let me know and I'll hook ya up with a nice purple reminder bracelet!)

this is love!

I'm pretty sure if you look up "love" in the dictionary, Memphis Girl's sweet face pops up!  The other day, B wanted to watch one of his shows and no offense to Spartacus, but it isn't my thing. That left me our bedroom to watch the good stuff!

When his show was over, B came into my room to bug talk to me and Memphis Girl decided that it would be the perfect time to infiltrate our room! [the girls are not allowed in our room] She immediately jumped on the bed, and this is what happened...

Now...this is love. She doesn't even need a Hallmark holiday to show us!

(ignore laundry on my was the maid's day off...ha)
Who could resist a sweet face like this (yeah, try making her get off the bed....couldn't do it!)?
Note, she is climbing OVER Ben to get to her! ;-)

He loves me... He loves me not....

beautiful red roses!

I received the sweetest surprise today at the workhouse....ROSES! I was shocked when they called me to the office and showed me a big box the UPS man brought. I opened it and immediately had the biggest smile on me face! A dozen red roses from my Love and on Valentine's day no less! He wrote the sweetest card ever and I cried in the office! I reckon I'll keep him! ;)

We usually don't do the whole gift thing, but I created him a card on Tiny Prints a few weeks ago! I LOVE this card and it was so hard waiting to give it to him! I left it on his gun (how romantic?) this morning because I knew he'd see it when he left for work! Apparently, he loved the card too!

We're going to grill out steaks on Thursday (he's off) since he is working tonight! I can't wait! Oh and the girls got a bone from their grandparents, so they're not neglected! :-)

Happy Valentine's day!!

Be Nice or...

I've had a vision of  what I've wanted  in our entry way for a while now, but haven't found anything close. A co-worker of mine makes and paints beautiful frames, paintings etc and it finally occured to me to ask her. She agreed and I couldn't be happier!

Here's the final product!
I heart paisley!

It looks so good in our entryway! Let's just hope all future visitors heed this warning...or else! ha!

she used a pillow of ours for the, green, black

I hung the picture I had there by the back door and I like it much better!

Finally we're making progress in the wall hanging department. It's starting to look a lot like a home!!

fill in the ___

1.   The TV show/website that I watch/read that I would be embarrassed to tell anyone about is  Real Housewives of....(all of 'em). Not proud to watch, but can't help at the same time! Oh and I love "", because it gives all the gossip about the reality shows!

2.  An item of clothing that is worn and torn but that I love far to much to throw away is
an old pair of jeans that fit amazingly, but have a hole in knee and back pocket. I don't usually wear 'em now though, but can't throw them out!

3.  My grocery store impulse buy is       today's impulse was Girl Scout cookies. Hey, if they're going to sit out in the cold, the least I can do is purchase a box!

4.  Something I do at work to pass time that I wouldn't want my co-workers to know about is   look at my phone! I keep it in my purse, but sometimes I have to sneak a peak! .

5.  One thing in my life that I could give up, but never will is     Coke. No, not the white stuff that my husband just loves to get off of the dope boys...but good ole Coca-Cola. I've tried giving it up for Lent but it is too hard to quit for good.

6.  A little indulgence that I have is        a glass of Riesling or a hot bath

7.  The junk drawer/area in my house is       we have one in our kitchen that houses  baggies, clips, plasticware and a multitude of other misc items. Our guest room and office closets are pretty un-organized too. Need to work on that.

Go here to participate!

Happy Friday y'all!

snow cute!

Since most of the South is experiencing a snow day(s), I thought it would be appropriate to share this cute "cooking" project! This would make for a great snow day snack for both kids and adults!

It is: easy, healthy (ier), cute, not too messy, something kids can do themselves and fun....can't go wrong with that!

image by my phone...but you get the idea

All ya need:
-bread (toasting it slightly may help the cream cheese spread easier)
-snow man cookie cutter (or use a knife and "wing it"!)
-cream cheese
-raisons for the eyes
-cheeto (or carrot for even healthier) for the nose
-liquorish for the mouth (or maybe a red tic-tac?)
-chocolate chips for the buttons
-pretzel sticks for arms (some of the kids broke theirs in half to make legs!)

It actually tasted pretty good and it kept 19 4/5 year old attention spans for at least 20 minutes! Not too shabby!

I would LOVE to be...

back here on this cold snowy February night!

St. Maarten (Jan 10)
 or here...

Grand Turk (Jan 10)
or even here!!

Cozumel, Mexico (Oct)

I'd even love to be with my parents as they cruise in the Mediterranean this month! I don't know why they wouldn't let me tag along!!

Where would you LOVE to be this cold night?

what I'm lovin this Weds!

1. SNOW 5.0!

We got at least 2.3 inches here (Memphis city got way more I hear)and I'm loving every minute! The roads are scary though and it took me like 30 minutes to go less than 3 miles! I saw 4x4 trucks sliding, but thankfully my ole tank made it just fine! Those Swedes sure know how to make safe cars for snow!
taken after just 1.5 hours after it began!

Can't wait to have fun with the girls tomorrow! They love it just as much as I do!

2. Tile!
We went last week and finalized our selection! We've been procrastinating long enough, but it'll be installed (B's doing it) February 24 come hail or high water.
similar to the one we're going with
We're going with an 18x18 tile and putting it on the diagonal! I seriously cannot wait!

3.  Spring Scents!

My friend sells Scentsy and sent me the new scent of the month! I love it and it smells just like SPRING! I think after this round of snow, I'm officially ready for Spring!

Happy Wednesday y'all!

Isn't it romantic...

If you know me, you know I love The Cosby Show. I've seen every episode (except two that are weird to me) at least a couple dozen times. One of my favorite episodes is titled "Isn't it Romantic". Basically....Cliff (dad) and his two sons-in-law discuss how they're romantic with their wives and come up with a plan to see who can be the most romantic aka The Emperor of Romance. They only have $25 dollars to spend, and they'll know who wins by the reaction of their wives. (The wives later find out about this "competition" and agree to fake their reactions negatively.)

Here's the's worth watching!

Today's topic over at Sarah's "Valentine challenge" is about romance, so this clip came to my mind! I wouldn't classify Ben as the most romantic guy ever...but he does often times surprise me! We have crazy schedules and often times only see each other for limited time each day, so we have to get creative. Also, like Cliff's sons-in-law, our "romance" isn't necessarily a gift or expensive. In fact, it's usually something simple and free!

-he calls me every night on his way home from work, and asks "Do you need anything?"

-since he comes home when I'm going to sleep, he'll come sit with me and talk til I finally fall asleep. This time isn't much but it's really sweet that he'll forgo his "dinner" or shows til we've talked for the night. I love it.

- we make a point to have a "date" every week. Usually something simple like dinner, glass of wine out on our patio, or a trip to Lowes (screams romance, huh), but something just the two (or friends) of us.

- "I love you" texts.

- He enjoys Starbucks' mochas. However, there are no Starbucks in his precinct. So, I went to Starbucks and asked the barista and got the stuff to make it at home! He was touched that I thought of him and used part of my gift card to buy it for him (instead of my usual peppermint hot cocoa).

- He'll occasionally bring home a "surprise" from the store (i.e. chocolate) or even flowers!

- When he has to work the desk, I'll take him dinner and eat with him. Yes, it's not Ruth's Chris, but it's still nice to be with the one ya love! ;-)

Even though, to some, he's not (or we're not) the Emperors of Romance....he's still a keeper!

sew cute!

I've been blessed with the best kids (20 awesome 4/5 yr olds) with wonderful parents. One of my sweet kiddos has the sweetest mom's ever and she recently created a blog! As luck would have it, I found it and immediately started stalking following! She is uber talented and has a ton of great ideas. Thursdays are her "Tutorial Thursdays" and she shows you how to make the neatest things.

A couple of weeks ago, she showed how to make a no sew shawl. Of course, I had to have one. The only problem is, I'm sewing challenged. Yes, you don't have to technically sew anything, but patterns/cutting straight etc really aren't my thing! So...I begged her to make me one and she agreed!!

I went to HobLob and got a yard of fleece and she went to town! It came out great and I LOVE it! I wore it Thursday and received several compliments! You can wear it several ways, and it is really cozy!

not a great pic b/c my "photographer" was running late to work!

It has the cutest flower pin too!

Check out her's sew cute!

Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of women? Every year, one out of three women die because of heart disease (at an alarming one per minute). It is not just an "old man disease" and women of all ages NEED to learn and become aware!

Click here to get a simple heart check up!

For more info on heart disease and signs of a heart attack go here! Women often times have different heart attack symptoms than men it's important to be informed!

Think you're too young to have "heart disease"? Take it from this 26 year're not! Heart disease can affect anyone: old, young, black, white, fat, skinny, man and woman!

Tomorrow, I'm encouraging everyone to wear red in honor and support of "Go Red for Women"! It truly does help raise awareness of this deadly disease!

GO RED and save a life!

My sweet tooth hearts "holidays" that thrive on candy (i.e. Halloween, Valentines, and maybe even Easter). I've tried to fight it, but it always wins! I also love that Girl Scout cookies come out this month!!

Sarah, a fellow Memphis gal, is doing a blog challenge for Valentines and today's topic is about favorite V-day sweets! I, of course, have several:

1. Little Debbie "Be My Valentine" cakes.

There's nothing better than a Little Debbie!

2. Hershey kisses.

They make me feel a tad better, because they're so small. But I usually end up eating way more though than I intended! Oops.

3. Anything in a heart shaped box.

I don't know what it is about that box, but it can make just about anything taste great! ;)
