I'm a researcher and always have been. As soon as something comes up (trip, life event etc), I begin researching andr researching.
I've been doing my homework on car seats/strollers. I asked several friends and a majority recommended the Chicco Key Fit 30.
Ben and I went to BRU to look at the KF30 and we both liked it. The KF 30 is rated up to 30llbs. The particular pattern we liked does not come in the "travel system" deal. Of course that means you have to buy the car seat and stroller separate. Cha-ching.
My mom saw the Target ad this week and it featured a Key Fit Travel System. The only catch is that it's the regular Key Fit which is only rated for 22llbs. But...it's like $100 less than the other at BRU and is the whole system.
So........now, my inexperience self is debating between the two. Is 8llbs really worth $100 more dollars? How long will it take J to be 22llbs anyways?! (lets just hope he's not a 14llb newborn like that poor mother in Iowa!)
I really wish this whole baby thing came with a manual. I just don't want to get the wrong things and mess up my first born (well, too bad)!

Here are my thoughts...
ReplyDeleteGo with the cheapest car seat. More than likely, Jack will be over 20 lbs and too long for his carrier by the time he is a year and you can turn him around facing front. Then you'll have to get a whole new car seat. I know if doesn't come with the stroller, but just a little FYI that I finally learned when I had Cash. There is this Snap N' Go stroller and it is AMAZING!!!!! It fits every car seat, is so light weight, and lays completely flat. I know the travel systems are great, but thy are very bulky and take up lots of room.
Okay. Just my thoughts. Hope it somewhat helps. :)
Our infant seat goes up to 30 pounds, but we've already switched Sam over to a convertible carseat. He just got too big for the infant seat (he's right around 20 lb at almost 9 months). I haven't been able to actually carry him in the infant seat for at least 2 months. So I'd say no, don't spend the extra $ for the extra 8 pounds! :)
ReplyDeleteWe had the 22lb Chicco for Grayson, and I always regretted not getting the Keyfit 30 until he outgrew his car seat before he turned one. Boys tend to get long...fast. In my experience, and seeing some of my friends all of our boys outgrew their infant car seats in length long before they reached the weight threshold. Save your self the extra $100 and put it towards and awesome jogging stroller or something.
ReplyDeleteMadi was out of her infant seat by 20ish pounds so i would get the cheaper one!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your advice! We decided to go with the regular/less expensive Chicco!
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeleteNotice my comment that is just a dot :). I didn't want to type a bunch of stuff and not be able to post to your blog, which has happened sooooo many times :). I bought the travel system and like your friend, Ashley, said the carrier is fine for the first year but we NEVER used the travel stroller because it is ridiculously BIG! You would be better off getting that snap in stroller thing and going with the carrier/car seat you like the best. I have really fat children (as you can see on my blog :) and we were able to use the carrier until LG was 7 months old. By then you can switch to the car seat (which we have had for almost three years) and start using an umbrella stroller. The car seat is where you need to spend your money and make sure you get a good one because you'll keep it for several years.
ReplyDeleteBTW~you are looking so cute!!! I can't believe you are 30 weeks already!!! I remember seeing your announcement and thinking by the time you had your baby I would be a mother of two!!!
