The Waiting Game

I know the Hunger Games are all the rage right now, but not here in the Fishbowl. We are smack in the middle of the Waiting Game and it's oh so fun . Or not.

Monday at my 38 week appointment, my OB checked me and I was at 3 centimeters and 80 % effaced. She asked me if I wanted her to strip my membranes (first step of inducing labor) and I said "sure". OMG that hurt. She said stripping membranes usually jump starts labor and I will most likely go into labor with in 48 hours. Or...I'd hate her come the following Monday. I left there hopeful. Maybe Jack will be a March baby after all.

Tuesday I went into work and my back literally hurt ALL day. I just didn't feel like myself, so I called my Mom (an RN) and she told me to call my OB's office. I talked with the  nurse at my OB's office and she informed me that I could get admitted and an epidural at 4 centimeters and after all her spill she said that "it's never a bad thing to go ahead and go to L&D to get checked out".

So....my Mom came and picked me up around 6 and we headed to the hospital. Ben obviously would have and wanted to go, but we agreed that it would be best for him not to waste 2+ hours at the hospital if it were nothing. He is in training and has a crap ton of stuff he has to do every night (studying, pressing his uniform etc).

I get to L&D (my mom works at the hospital, so she called ahead for me!) and they immediately take me to the observation room. The awesome nurse (who I happened to go to school with....small world), hooked me up to the monitors and got me settled.

She checked me and I was at 4 cms. Yay...that's the magic number. Or so I thought.  I was contracting every 4-8 minutes too, but I felt them mostly in my back. ugh. Jack really liked the contractions because his heart jumped to the 170's during each one.

After an hour, they re-checked me and I was still a 4. The new nurse asked me if I wanted to walk, or go home. I said "I'm already here...so lets walk". I walked an hour straight (geez!) and then she rechecked me. The nurse just knew I would change and already got my stuff ready for admitting me.

Still a 4 = discharged. Boo. They wanted to see some change in my cervix in order to admit me.

The on call doctor called me in a ambien so I could sleep. That pill is amazing. I woke up once disoriented but other than that I slept like a baby.

so now.....we wait.

I've been drinking tons of water, and walking more in hopes to irk him enough to come out!!

He has to come eventually, right?

Jack in the Box: the shower

Last weekend, my sweet family friends (my mom's best friend and her daughter) threw me and Jackson a shower. My Aunt helped with the decorations and she chose the "Jack in the Box" theme. So cute. My Aunt should really be a professional event planner because she never misses a detail, ever.

(I didn't have patience to doctor these photos, so they're not the best)

Jack in the Box center peices

The box has his named spelled around it and the flowers have springs in it....just like a jack in the box. Clever.

yummy petit fours.

This kid will know how to spell his name by 6 months I'm sure!

we had chicken salad bites, mini turkey sandwiches, spin dip, veggies and fruit...yum!

We are anti games at showers (no reason really, just are).  My mom's friend Mrs. G (the hostess), decided that she had to get my mom to play ONE corny baby shower game. I almost died when she announced that my mom/MIL and their partners were going to race to see who could eat baby food the fastest! So thankful it wasn't me! ha!!  They were good sports and it was quite funny to watch.

After the great baby food race of 2012, they decided it was time to open presents.  We had such a great time talking and carrying on during the gifts that my mom didn't get one picture of me opening anything. Oops!

Jack received several big items and we are so thankful! We got the car seat/stroller, "key fit caddy" stroller which I cant wait to use, Boppy pillow,  his bouncer chair, diaper bag, sound machine for his crib, Boon grass counter top dryer rack (so neat) , diapers and a ton of other wonderful things! My cousin who is a Nurse Practitioner also gave him his first medical/fist aid kit! I'm sure I'll be calling her before I use it though.

Again...so blessed.

my friend Laura, who is 20 week pregnant!!

Mrs. G and Kristi...the hostesses!

my sweet friend Jonie who is having J's friend any day now!!

blurry pic of my mom, me, cousin Courtney and Aunt Erin!

It was so great seeing my wonderful family and friends! I know I say this often, but I'm so blessed it's unreal.

Jack Attack: 38 weeks!

Holy moly...this kid can be here any time now. Where did these past 9.5 months go??
(ignore the bra strap...I wore a cardigan! oh and the mess...ignore that too)

How big is he?: roughly 6+ pounds

Gender: BOY oh boy!!

Maternity clothes?: Yes

Weight Gain: 20 pounds....blah.

Labor Signs?:lots of BH contractions that are getting stronger and more painful.

Belly button....in or out?: mostly out!

Sleep:Not the greatest. I wake up every hour to potty and can't seem to get comfy.

Stretch marks?: None. {Knocks on wood.}

Cravings: Green Beans and all things chocolate

Movement: he's getting cramped in there poor guy

Best moment of the week:  I'm now 3 cm's, 75% effaced and he's at a station 0, which means he's head down and in the birthing canal! My OB doesn't think it will be too much longer til he arrives!!!

We also installed his car seat which is so weird seeing in the rear-view mirror. We also put together his bouncer and stroller...exciting!

His room is finally almost complete! I can't wait to share.

confessions!

1. I cannot wait to go on maternity leave. I wish I had prepared enough to take these last two (or however long til little boy blue shows up) off in advance. Next time, definitely.

2. There's a Teller at the Bank that seriously annoys me. She's super sweet but it's the type of sweet that just grates on my last nerve. I smile and just try to be nice, but the whole time I'm thinking "lady...shut up and just make my deposit!"  I'm horrible.

3. I love the spring like weather we've been having, but this 85 degrees in March thing is too much. I can't wait to see how hot it will be in August. (not!)

4. I put St. Patrick's bandanas on the girls last week, and just realized they still had 'em on today. Oops. They looked so cute though. I mentioned Easter bandanas, and I'm pretty sure Dixie rolled her eyes at me. Brat.

simply spoiled

A couple weekends ago, B's family threw Jack Jack a sweet shower. It was so nice seeing his family  again (some of whom I haven't since our wedding) and a blast hearing some stories of B (and his cousins) growing up.

Jack received lots of goodies, but most importantly lots of DIAPERS! You know you're about to be a mom when receiving diapers excites you!

cute decor

I sure hope all this spoiling doesn't go directly to Jack's head! ha!

Am I the only one??

Who:

1. Has never seen an episode of Glee or the Bachelor is and is perfectly okay with that??

I'm not big on music (probably because I can't carry a tune in a bucket), so Glee has never appealed to me. Yet, I seem like I'm the odd person b/c I have no clue what people are chatting about. And for the Bachelor, I'm not the least bit interested in seeing a group of grown women act like crazies for some man's "love".

2. Has no idea what The Hunger Games are/is!

I think it's a book?? Enlighten me, so I can be a part of the in crowd!!

3. Doesn't own a pair of TOMS?

I think they're cute. I just don't know if I want to spend $40 bucks on 'em. Plus, my feet are the size of skis, so I'm not sure they'd even look cute on me.  Decisions decisions.

I know I'm not the hippest person on the planet, but surely I'm not the only one....

Jack Attack: 36 weeks

big momma (in his messy notyetcomplete nursery)

How big is he?: roughly 6+ pounds

Gender: BOY oh boy!!

Maternity clothes?: Yes

Weight Gain: 19 pounds

Labor Signs?: I've been experiencing mild cramping and lower back pain!! :-)

Belly button....in or out?: 1/2 out!

Sleep: not too good thanks to ole heart burn

Stretch marks?: None. {Knocks on wood.}

Cravings:  nothing really

Movement:  he stretches, changes sides and kicks my ribs a lot now. It's weird seeing/feeling a hard ball in my tummy, but so neat!

Best moment of the week:  Finding out I'm 2 centimeters and 75% efaced already!!! woohoo! Only a few more days til we're full term!!

Surprise shower!

Wednesday we had a staff meeting planned after work, to go over stuff before I go on maternity leave. I got the agenda (yep...I'm like that) copied for everyone and was ready to get the show on the road.

Well my mom called at 5:30 (before we closed) and said she had somethings for us at the house (our "new" house is on the same property as my Center). I said "okay...I'll be over for a minute, but I have a meeting a 6".  I walk over and there's my mom, dad and B. Weird, but not out of the ordinary. My parents brought us J's crib mattress (THANK YOU!), so I thought thats why they came over.

Then, my mom asks to go see the Center because we've been doing some painting. Didn't think anything about it b/c my mom's nosy like that! ha! But...my dad and B tagged along. Weird, but whatever.

We tour the Center and then I said "well, I really better get this meeting started". I hugged them and went into the room where our meeting was to be held.

I walked in.....and all the ladies I work with yelled......SURPRISE!!

There were balloons, an awesome cake, and a table full of wonderful gifts...it was a surprise shower. I was SHOCKED.
the cutest (and yummiest) cake, made by one of our parents

My entire staff, parents and husband all knew about it for a month, yet miracously I did not!!

B and my mom stayed while I opened gifts. Jack received way too many wonderful items and one of my sweet ladies even gave ME a gift (a night gown for the hospital)! After the presents were opened, we ate the tasty dishes the girls all brought for our pot luck. (Yes, we did have a meeting after we ate...but I wasn't too mean to 'em!)
the coolest baby bath I've seen....he wont want to take regular baths after this!!

I was truly surprised and completely blown away at their generosity. Oh and very proud that a group of 15 women kept a secret for over a month!!!

Jack's first shower!

My sweet friend, Aimee, offered to throw me and Jack a shower for my Memphis friends. I was blown away by her generosity. She's uber creative and talented, so I had no doubts it was going to be one cute shower. I loved all the decorations and how laid back the shower was! We ate yummy ham/cheese rolls, potato casserole, fruit and GiGi mini cupcakes. Everything was perfect...just perfect.

Here's a peak at the adorable invite...created by Aimee!

Love the onesies as decorations!

The hostess with the mostess herself!
(Ignore the whale in the glasses! I had to wear 'em due to this pesky pink eye...boo).

Some more of the cute decor...

drink table (just before the drinks were placed)
my sweet friend Leslie....again ignore me!

Mini GiGi cupcakes....um, YUM!
My mom took all the photos with her camera of the actual shower and of course it will take a month of Sunday's to get those from her, so here's a some of his loot!

cute onesies, swaddle blankets and a doggy towel!

he will sure smell good!!

the J frame is custom made by another talented friend! I cannot wait for his picture to go in it!!

dehumidifer (thought the elephant was adorable) and receiving blankets

bottles, pacie, mattress cover, books, spoons, snack holder and linky toys

It was such a nice visit with my sweet Memphis friends. I was truly touched at the generosity these girls showed Jack.

midweek confessions

http://www.emyselfandi.com/search/label/Midweek%20Confessions" target="_blank">
-I'm over being sick. These past two weeks I've had: a virus, viral pink eye, a nonstop cough that is still ever so present (especially at night), a popped rib thanks to coughing (OUCH!!!) and now bacterial pink eye in both my eyes.Thankfully my OB gave me a "z-pack" which is helping and I went today for eye drops for this pink eye. My ribs still hurt but I think I'll make it.

-I love that my mom has been over several times to take care of me! Ben does a great job, but nobody can care for you as good as your mom!!

-I had to let an employee go today due to a variety of reasons. It actually went better than I expected. I really hope this is my first and last time to fire someone though. Donald Trump...I'm not!

-In less than a month, I'll be a mom. This is scary! I still have so much to do and have oh so little energy to do it with. Hopefully the nesting drive will over rule the sick/tiredness.

Happy Wednesday y'all.

some other beginning's end...

B's last official day with the Memphis Police Department was February 24th. He didn't actually have to work, but do all the final paper work etc. It was such a bittersweet day.

He had to turn in all the gear etc in to the different sections of the department (HR, Equipment etc), which resulted in a lot of running around town. It was a nice way to get one last view of Memphis, even if it was a quick one.

The final stop was his precinct to sit in one last "roll call"(pre-shift meeting). Man....that was rough on the emotions. I am SO happy I was able to be there and will never forget that day. The Lieutenant and B's partner said some sweet parting words to B and I almost lost it. Thankfully, I held it in!  I had to remind myself that crying in a room full of men wasn't a good idea....ha!

roll call room

B and his partner, Wirt! (great guy)

We brought his shift a nice cookie cake (B wouldn't let me get the lady to write "Love, Fish" on it though) and of course they all enjoyed every bite!

Later that evening, we went to a local cop bar to meet with a few of his buddies. Ben did not want a huge going away party, so this was perfect. Having to get up early to move put a damper on staying out late and partying it up thing!  (I took way more pictures, but here are a few)
B's other partner Moore!
Wirt & Fulghum

Jackson (and he swears we are naming our son after him!! ha!)

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. While we're sad for this chapter to end, we are thrilled for the new beginnings.

MIA

I was not intending on the almost two week long hiatus, but I'm finally (somewhat...will be 100% next week) back!

-We have officially moved into the Nashville home! We still have several boxes to go through and what not. All of our big stuff is in and it already feels like home!

-Moving day(s) went smoother than expected. We had perfect weather and wonderful friends/family to help.

-The dogs love the new place. They discovered the stairs (that go to a bonus room) and literally sound like a herd of buffalo when they run down the stairs!

-Ben started the new job. It's not fun going through the academy all over, but he says it's okay.

-I'm sick. I started getting sick last week but figured it was just a cold. I fought through it but Tuesday was rough. I woke up Wednesday morning with my eye swollen shut. I still had a horrible cough so I decided to go to the Neighborhood MD clinic. I have a Virus (no fever thank God) which also caused my pink eye. Grrrrreat. Of course being 35 weeks pregnant, there's not much they can do. I did get a steroid shot and a script for some cough syrup.  My eye is still blood shot and I sound like an old man, but I'm feeling better.
