obsessions

Sarah over at Saige Wisdom does a weekly "obsessions" link up. This week she's including a $50 giveaway to Etsy. Sweet!
(her cute button is not working for some reason!)

Here are my obsessions this week:

1. BBQ.

I go in spurts where all I want to eat is one thing and I eat that one thing for months on end. For some reason, it is now BBQ. I recently found a great hole-in-the-wall bbq place that is literally a few miles from our house. Dangerous I tell ya! The 'que is ah-mazing and the sides are all home made. The people are so friendly too. Yesterday Jack and I had a date night and he took me there. The sweet employee (there's only 3) took my food to the car since I was carrying J in his carrier without me asking or anything. Now, that's service.

I try to limit my 'que intake to just once a week (if that!), but it's haaard!!

2. Pinterest.

If you've been living under a rock, Pinterest is a great website where you can "pin" ideas/recipes/etc that you find on the internet onto boards so you can go back to view the item(s). It's way easier than saving a bunch of sites in your favorites list.

I'm really obsessed with the cute summery outfits people have been posting. I found a dress that I loved but it was a UK store (and the shipping would've been more than the dress). Bummer.

Oh and I'm totally obessed and jealous of all the cute hair styles. Especially the ponytails with the cute side braids. Uh...why can't my mop hair cooperate.

3. Seersucker.

Every Southern gal needs a sweet seersucker dress. This Southern gal does not have one....yet. I found a great website in Southern Living and I'm seriously going to save up my mola and get me a great ss dress.

4. Etsy.

It's a tad overwhelming, but I love this place. My current obsession on Etsy is this artwork.

This verse was my late Uncle Tim's favorite and it gives me comfort everytime I read it.

I'd love this artwork to go in Jack's nursery. I can't wait to tell him all about his Uncle Tim.

What are you obsessed with??

confessions

It's confession time again and boy do I have a lot of 'em!

1. I some most of the time forget to put socks on Jack Jack. Honestly, I just don't think about them. Plus, I like his socks to match and some outfits I don't have the right socks for!! (he does wear them at school since he is in a/c all day.)

2. It gets on my nerves when random people tell me a) that I should have socks on my child..ha! b) that my child is so small and c) anything else parenting wise! I may be new at the whole parenting thing, but he's new at the whole being born thing and we both manage just fine thankyouverymuch!

3. We just finished moving the rest of our stuff up from Memphis (well, we still have one load left). It's all in our new den waiting to be put away. I'm realllly tempted to have the Salvation Army come and just haul it all away because I realllly don't want to do it myself! How does one accumulate so much crap in 4 years??

4. I found pants that I had in high school that I've kept all this time. They're really cute dress pants that I loved. I'm apparently still under the impression that my justhadababyandalmost30yearsold butt is the same size as when I was oh 16 and a size 0. I'm really tempted to try  'em on, but then again I don't want to be depressed!

5. The new "eat healtheir" campaign I wanted to start hasn't really started. I made Ben pick me up a milk shake last night (we split it) and then had Firehouse for lunch. Not healthy in the least.  There's always tomorrow, right?

6. I caved in to Ben and signed up to do the "family fun walk" while he runs his next 5k. I'm pretty sure walking a mile in this heat is anything but fun.

7. This makes me a horrible person, and I hope I'm not the only one who's done this....

I ran into my former boss from when I worked at the Y in highschool/college. She asked me if I had any children now and I said "Yes..a 12 week old little boy". She asked me what his name was and I said....wait for it....

WILL.

I told her my NEPHEW'S name. What the heck??? I immediately corrected myself and felt like the worst mom ever. I mean who does that????

Summertime and the living is easy...

It's officially summer (and officially hot)! I'm still amazed at how fast this year is going by.

I decided to join the club and make a summer bucket list of everything I want to do this summer.

Here goes:

1. Go to a drive in movie! (This will be our next date night...Ben just doesn't know it yet!)

2. Cook a new recipe at least once a week. (and pray it's not a complete disaster!)

3. Bake a cobbler. (Ben has been getting fresh peaches for a while now and for some reason I reallllly want to make a peach cobbler now. Weird considering I'm not a peach fan.)

4. Host a cook out. (We've planned one for B's coworkers. I hope my inner Martha comes out!)

5. Enjoy some home made ice cream. (ain't nothing better!)

6. Actually do something that I've pinned on Pinterest

7. Eat a fancy schmancy popsicle from Las Paletas

8. Girls night out. ('nuff said)

9. Attend the free outdoor concert series at our local outdoor mall

10. Finally hang the rest of the curtains in our new place (before our cookout)

11. Work out at least 3x's a week.

12. Go on a picnic date with my boys.

13. Cheer on my nephew's baseball team (just not the 8 AM games!!)

14. Get a summer 'do. (seriously, my hair is awful and I'm over wearing pony tails!)

15. Go fishing and maybe bait my own hook!! (my Granny and I used to do this and I'm really missing her so I think this would be fun and therapeutic)

Ok...so I really need to get on it!

What you got planned for the summer??

work it out wednesday

(boring post ahead...but I need to write it out so it makes me accountable)

So....I'm officially ready to be back to my pre-baby toned self. Thankfully, I've lost all the weight I gained, but I have lots of toning to do. I also want to be healthy and raise Jack in a healthy lifestyle.

The catch: I'm lazy & have no self control when it comes to sweets or junk food. (first step is always admitting your problem, right?!)

Well...here's my plan of action:

I really wanted to try a "stroller" class, but they're all during working hours. Boo. So, I decided to get back into Zumba. I found a free class on Weds and started back last week. It was just as fun and sweat inducing as I remembered. I've found a few more I want to take because I need to do Zumba at least twice a week. One is a "toning" class, so I'm excited about that.

Ben has been pestering me to do 5ks with him. The only problem is...I do NOT run. It's not fun to me. However, my goal is to at least walk two 5ks this year and try my hardest to run a little. I'd love to have a runner's body! I told Ben that if I was going to run/walk, I had to get a proper run/walk stroller. It's only fair, right??

I also found a Pin on pinterest that incorporates your child. I am excited to try this. My arms have never really been toned, so I hope incorporating a 10llb baby will do the trick. We shall see.

On the food front: I've pretty much cut out cokes and we're trying to eat at home more (which means healthier foods). I'm actually learning to love zucchini and apples with out caramel dip!  Huge milestone for this gal. My next hurdle is portion control. Since I'm still nursing, I can't really cut calories and have to eat quite a bit. I'm trying (probably not hard enough though) to snack on healthier items (almonds etc). It's hard and way easier to just grab some candy or chips. (Note to self: get rid of that crap asap!) I'm forcing myself to drink at least two liters of water per day. It helps with my milk production too which is great (TMI, sorry).

What are some of your favorite ways to work out? Tips on eating healthier etc.

Help a gal out!!!

Dads are Rad!

This weekend was all about pretty rad dads!

Saturday, Jack and I supported Ben as he ran in the "Dash for Dads" 5k. He ran it in 23 minutes!! Way to go Ba!!

best cheerleader

Sunday, Jack gave Ben the best present ever...6+ hours of uninterrupted sleep! Sleep is highly coveted around here! :)

For lunch, we headed to my parents. My mom made a delicious spread of "Tn-Mex" food. It was so good!! After lunch, we headed outside to play. My brother found his old (child sized) golf clubs and brought them out for his boys. Drew decided he owned the "golf store" and decided which golf club we needed and how many golf balls/tees we could have. His store was robbed several times by his mean ole brother!! ha! Drew finally got fed up and closed his store.

We hung out for a while then headed to B's parents for a cookout. B's extended family came and finally got to meet Jack! We had such a nice time!

Love these Dads!!!

date night

Growing up, my parents always went out and on trips with out my brother or me. Of course as a child I was a tad miffed when they did this (especially the trip they only brought me back a rock as a surprise...still bitter!), but my dad told me basically that their marriage came first.

I didn't fully understand this statement until 2 months ago when we entered the parent phase of our relationship. We became so involved (rightfully so) with the little guy that we put our relationship on the back burner. It showed too. We had only been out once with out J and that was for an hour when he was a week. I don't think being sleep deprived and still on 500 mg of ibuprofen makes for a fun date. ha!

We needed to get away, just us.
we even took a non-mom car!! Jack wanted to ride too...ha!

I told Ben we had to go on a date soon. My parents graciously offered to keep Jack while we went out. We chose to go play Put-Put. We hadn't been in years and it's always a fun time so it made sense. Plus, a little competition amongst friends never hurt! ha!
B after his hole in one!!

Tiger has nothing on me!!

We had so much fun. I lost but it's only because I was robbed from 2 should-have-been-hole-in-one shots. I'm not bitter or anything.  I was a big girl and didn't demand any mulligans either!!

After we played, we went to a local pub to grab a quick drink and bite. I tried to make sure we didn't only talk about Jack too and surprisingly we had enough to talk about!

We got back to my parents and Jack was sound asleep on my mom. He slept the entire time we were gone too! My parents said they'd watch him anytime if he was going to be that easy...ha! I'll remember this when he's 2!!!

Lookin' forward to our next date already!

fun with friends

(This week has been crazy. I'm glad it's half way over!!)

This weekend our sweet friends Leslie, Sam and Miss Camille came up from Memphis to visit. We were beyond excited to see them.

Since downtown Nashville was uber crowded because of the Country Music festival, we decided to go to a local mall and walk around/window shop. Camille and Jack went on their first "date" and Jack thinks she's pretty great!! ha!
worn out from all the excitement!

We worked up an appetite while shopping. Originally we were going to go to the famous Loveless Cafe. However, it's quite a hike to get there and we were all getting hungry at that point. We decided to go to Pucketts Grocery in Nashville. There was no wait (even with all the tourists!) and the food was delicious!

I'm so thankful for sweet friends!!!

Run Dad Run

Ben and his training class had to run in a couple 5k's for their "community project". Today was the "Shoney's 5k" that benefited Nashville's police department.

We woke up at the crack of dawn (literally) and headed downtown for the race. The weather was nice, but cool.

view from the finish line....beautiful Nashville

B's one man cheering squad

they stretched and pt'd before the race

getting started
One guy ran the 5k in 15 minutes. I can barely walk ONE mile in that time. Crazy.  After the race, we headed for the refreshment table!! Shoney's is a restaurant chain so they had a nice breakfast spread. B ate a bite and then we walked around the different booths set up. They had neat bounce houses but we thought J should sit this year out! We did let him explore the police helicopter.

We then headed home and all three crashed!! 4:45 comes way to early!!
