oh what a year

This time last year:

1. I accepted a new job in Nashville.
2. Ben applied for a job in Nashville.
3. I moved to Nashville and into my parents house.
4. I started my new job.
5. I found out that I was going to be a mommy!!! Many happy tears were shed and many pregnancy tests were taken...ha!

7/28/11 one of the best days of my life!

the most amazing thing to see...6 weeks GA and already a heart beat!

6. Ben and I started our countless trips back and forth from Memphis to Nashville.

Whew. What a difference a year makes! I'm actually really thankful for all the unanswered prayers for a baby sooner. God's timing could have been more perfect (but isn't it always?).

misc monday

1. Our internet is down. Again. I'm realllly close to firing AT&T. Ben was on the phone with them for an hour and the issue still isn't resolved. Apparently they want us to take our modem to the store we purchased it from. Um, that's 200 miles away  so that's not going to happen. I'm letting Ben handle this because I'd most likely not be to kind.

2. Ben graduates from Nashville's Police academy NEXT week. These past 21 weeks have really gone by fast...a lot faster than the one in Memphis. I got Jack the cutest outfit to wear (and not one thing for myself yet), so I can't wait to show him off!!

3. Jack can now roll over from his back to stomach AND stomach to back! He was having some tummy time and apparently decided he had enough and just rolled himself right over to his back!  He was kind enough to make sure his dad and I were watching this time.

Saturday, I put him in the middle of his mat (on his back) so I could take a dish out of the oven. I walked back into the room and saw this:

Not only did he roll himself over, he then scooted himself off of the mat. This kid is going to be mobile soon I'm afraid.

4. In other, more sad news....My parents informed me that my cat that I got in 6th grade, Twitty, passed away today. She was boarding at the Vet since they're out of town. I know she's better off, but it's really sad.

the 411

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?
I started this here blog back on '08 after we moved to Memphis. I wanted our parents to keep up with what was going on in our exciting lives. ha! I got the idea to blog before our wedding, but honestly never did anything with it. However, once we moved decided to give it a try. The blog has changed somewhat, but ultimately it's just about boring ole us.

I do appreciate that I started this when I did though. It's way easier than a scrapbook!

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?

I graduated with my B.S. in Child Development and Family Studies from the great Middle Tennessee State University! My parents and SIL are all alums, so it's kinda a family tradition.

3. Where have you traveled?
I heart traveling. I especially love cruising and have been on 7!

I've been: too many states to name, Canada, Mexico, St. Thomas, St. Marten, St. John, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, The Cayman Islands.

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
Probably a new car for me and probably my bro/SIL.  I'm not even a car person, but I think I'd retire my ole paddy wagon!

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?

1. Children with no manners. I was raised to say "please/thank you and ma'am/sir". It drives me crazy not to hear manners from the little ones.
2. People who do not return shopping carts to the proper place.
3. People who don't merge when they are supposed too & then cut you off. Ugh.

6. What is your favorite movie?
I am NOT a movie person. Seriously, I just don't care to see 'em.

I could probably watch "A League of their Own" once a month though (and cry at the ending, every.time!) and The Help was really good too!

 7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
Sweet (I'm picky about the sweetness)  tea and Riesling. I drink water, but prefer it to be ice cold and in a bottle of some sort.

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
Nowadays...sleep! Seriously, I'd give anything to have a few hours of uninterrupted sleep.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
tough...probably either Target or H&M (and Nashville seriously needs to get one, asap!)

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.

I tripped and fell walking into a funeral of a local Marne who was KIA. Of course this was in front of quite a few Marines. I was mortified.

11. What day would you love to relive again?
Jack's birth. Such an amazing day that I would love to relive and literally capture every moment.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
Anne Hathaway

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
I worked as a grocery bagger when I was 15 and made a whopping $5.25 an hour!
I also worked as a hostess at a restaurant and at the YMCA (during hs/college).

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
this is us waaay back in '03 at my HS graduation. Ben had just returned from Iraq and was pretty much a skeleton.
St Pat's day in 06 with my college  roomie Rey!

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
Ireland. I'd love to see where my family is from.

or...somewhere warm and exotic...decisions decisions!

16. Show us the most current picture of you , or your family, or anything of meaning to you.

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?

new house, new child, same husband (ha!)

Jack Attack: 3 months!

Jack turned 3 months on the 4th, so we're a tad late. Sorry Bud!

10llbs 14.4 oz

He gained a pound, which is awesome. However, he went from the 10th percentile to the 6th, which is not good. The Doctor on that day (not our normal doc) told me to increase the ounces to 5 in the bm bottles at school. I continue to feed him on demand when we're together. Hopefully, this will do the trick. We go in a couple weeks to see if our plan worked.

Not sure! We didn't get this checked at the weight check.

Milestones reached:
-Rolling over from back to front
-found your  hands and feet and you love them
-laughing out loud (which is the best sound, ever!)
-head control is much better

-fireworks which you loved
-slept in your crib all night!
- celebrated your first 4th
-trip to church
-bruise on your knee :-(
-t-ball game
-trip to Memphis

-kicking your legs (we think you'll be a great soccer player or tap dancer!)
-sticking your hands in your mouth and gagging yourself. Silly boy.
-facing out to see everyone (you're nosey like your mom!)
-being laugh so hard!

-being still too long
-the camera (you refuse to smile at mommy while she has it!!)
-tummy time

-paci (you usually spit it out!)
-being swaddled (which you hated earlier...weird)

Depends on the day! Yesterday you slept from 10-5:30 (then from 6-8!) which was amazing! You sometimes only sleep in 2 hour increments which stinks. We are slowly introducing you to your crib since you're outgrowing your bassinet. are loved beyond measure!

If only.

We went to church Sunday for the first time in months (don't judge!!). Amazingly the church did not fall down! Jack did amazing too, which made me happy.

Anyways, Sunday's homily really hit home. Our Priest talked about the "If only" song that is probably the chorus/song of our lives. "If only I was/had....then I would/could..." Beware: this will be deep and probably make zero sense. It's been on my mind now for 2 days, so I had to write about it.

I catch myself singing that tune quite often now-a-days. It seems simple and innocent enough, but in reality it's quite dangerous. I seem to get caught up in the picture of how I imagined my life to be like instead of embracing the life I have.

If only I could stay at home...I could do neat activities like the other cool SAHMs out there. If only I did not breast feed....Jack would be bigger. If only I could be happy with my body....I'd feel better. If only I had a brand new wardrobe....I'd be content.

I could go on and on.

The reality is, I have a pretty good life. I can't stay at home, but I do have a huge benefit of being about see my baby anytime during the day and get the much needed pay check. I do breastfeed and yes Jack IS tiny and we're working on bulking him up, but he is growing and getting lots of good antibodies. I'm not as toned yet but I will be toned again. After all,  I had a human growing in me for 10 months! I will/have purchased new clothing items, but do I really need a whole new wardrobe?? Nah.

Father Kibby talked about the second reading and how the "If only" song actually destroys the grace that Christ has given us. He reiterated the verse from our reading out of 2 Corinthians:

9 but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Wow. I should be thankful that my "hardships" are superficial instead of singing the if only tune. I need to remember that Christ's grace is sufficient and that I should just be content in Him (and the fact that He didn't say "If only I didn't die on this cross...").

family, fun, fourth and fireworks!

This past Sunday my mom, nephews, Jack and I went to a local parish for their annual firework show. It was hotter than blue blazes, so we waited til the last possible second to go before they shut down all the fun activities. There were jump houses, slides, ice cream truck (who made a killing!), food, and an orchestra type band playing wonderful music. Oh and about 30 minutes worth of awesome fireworks.
all American boy!

Jack loves his Millie (even if she accidentally bought him a girls 4th of July onesie!!!)

Watching the fireworks!

Will wanted Jack to hold the flag!

Jack did extremely well with his first firework experience. I was quite proud! My mom was holding him facing away from the fireworks (in case they would scare him) and he about broke his neck trying to watch 'em . Nosy.  Needless to say we put him on the blanket and let him watch.

On the 4th, we decided to keep it low key. It was way to hot to go outside (100+ degrees) and we both had to work the next morning. My parents invited us over for grilled chicken and veggies so we opted to do that. I'm all for some a/c!

After we got home, we kept hearing fireworks so we decided to go outside to watch them. I love fireworks, even if they're illegal and could have caused a massive fire in this drought. I'm a rebel! ha!

We had a great 4th and I'm pretty sure it will be one of Jack's favorite holidays when he's bigger.

One down!

I totally meant to post this yesterday and make it a "Made it Monday" post, but yeah that didn't happen! Oops.

One of my goals on my summer bucket list was to cook a new meal every week. We get into ruts when it comes to food and one can only take so much of grilled chicken. Well last week I finally crossed one item off our list.

I get e-mails from Kraft and have wanted to try several of their recipes. I got an email with the
"Easy Bistro Chicken" recipe the other week & sounded especially good. Anything with easy in the title is right up my alley! (I tend to stick with chicken though...need to get out of my box)
Via Krafts site...mine didn't resemble this at all but was still good!!!

It was quick to cook and honestly pretty good. Ben even really enjoyed it! I made it with angel hair pasta.

I can definitely see us enjoying this on a frequent basis.

Y'all have any new recipes you want share? Help a bettycrocker girl out.

Rollin' rollin' rollin'...

Jack is finally rollin!! Our lives may never be the same again! ha!

He's been trying for a while (heck since birth), but just couldn't figure out how to get his arm out of the way. Friday, while at school, he was playing on the play mat and just rolled right over. His teacher was so excited and tried to get me in time, but he was too fast!

Of course, he refused to do it when we got home that night and had our camera ready. Saturday, I placed him on his mat and "ignored" him.  I had my phone on video mode, just in case. The little stinker finally rolled, even with his dad and me watching! I was able to capture a few seconds of it and may or may not have watched it 10 times already! We both thought it was the coolest thing and praised him like he had won the World Series!!!

We're pretty proud!
