fall festival fun

Our friends had a group of us over for a fall gathering! We could not stay there too long, since Ben had to work but we had a nice time! They had yummy chilli and hot dogs and another friend brought a pumpkin cake that was delicious!

my flash on the camera has died...boo

sweet friends and hosts

Sunday we went to another friends' church for their Trunk or Treat! It was sooooo cold due to the wind, so Jack stayed bundled up and didn't get to debut his "bones" outfit! I told everyone he's going as a "warm baby"! ha!

love them bones!

my friend Sheena snapped this one...so cute!

worn out!

This Fall has been loads of fun!

Spirit Week 2012!

This week at school we had a "spirit" week, where we had different fun dress up days! I hate to admit it but I kinda picked the themes because I knew Jack would be all cute! He did not disappoint. :-)

I loved dressing up last year, but this year it was even better to have my little guy too!

crazy hat day; Pirate day; cowboy day!

team spirit and wacky tacky!

I can't wait til next year because I know he'll be even cuter (if that's possible)!!

A Hauntingly Good Time!

Saturday we decided to have family night and went to the "Hauntings at The Hermitage! [The Hermitage is the home of President Andrew Jackson.] We had so much fun!
before we left! He looked so handsome in his plaid!

They had a Presidential trick or treating pathway, where different Presidents and their wives passed out candy! Jack liked Andrew Jackson (yes, he's partial since he's kinda named after the Pres) and Abe Lincoln the best. J passed out before he could collect all of the candy, but Ben and I made sure to get it for him! ha!

trick or treating
We got to tour the mansion and grounds (which is kinda spooky since he is actually buried there!) and it was neat seeing it at night. Neither B nor myself had been there since we were kids, so it was nice to see it again & refresh our memories.

After the tour, we went on a fun "haunted" hayride that scared the adults more than the kids! It was such a beautiful night too, which made it even better.

There were tons of other activities: Halloween movies on the lawn, Ghost stories, music, a hay maze and arts and crafts area. I decided to hit the arts and crafts area up and create Jack a pumpkin since he couldn't do it himself!
all haunted out (with his pumpkin!!)

We had such a good time and plan on making it a yearly tradition!

Fall fun!

I love fall. Love everything about this season. I especially love pumpkin patches. In the past, we would go and feel awkward since we didn't have children! Not this year!!!

We invited our new friends (they're from Chicago) and my brother and his family and we all went to "Walden Farms". Ben and I went there about 6 years ago and it was nothing like it is now. It's really grown and way more fun!

sweet cousisn! I love this photo!
walking thru the corn maze!

I want this one!

hey guys, can I get some help please??

Jack loved the pumpkin farm! So much to see and explore. It made my heart so happy!

Gatlinburg fun!

A couple of weekends ago, my sweet cousin Courtney (finally!) got married! We all made the trip up to the Gatlinburg (outside of Knoxville) for the "Royal Wedding".

Saturday before the wedding, my SIL (my brother had a golfing outing) and I decided to take the kiddos out and about. My other cousin's daughter joined us too. We ate breakfast/lunch at the famous Pancake Pantry. Their sweet potato pancakes are heavenly. After breakfast and walking around, we went to burn off some energy at "The Track". We played bumper boats and go karts. Fun for everyone...even if I got soaked while wearing  a white shirt. Grrr!

Jack wanted to ride, but decided bumper strollers wasn't a good idea!
my SIl/nephew and B with my cousin!
I got talked into riding with my cousin and of course was soaked!
The wedding was gorgeous but totally different from any that I've been too. My cousin and her now husband are different and it totally fit them. I was nervous about bringing Jack, but literally had no one in the area to leave him with. I knew Ben would be more than willing to take him outside if he got fussy! Jack did awesome. He literally only starting perking up when they were singing (I'm sure he was just singing too!), so we quickly took him to the hallway. It was a long wedding too, so I was one proud mom!
at the reception (I couldn't find anything for J to wear so I just put him in that...at least it went with the color scheme!)

The reception was beautiful because my mom and most of her cousins/sisters set it up! They literally spent 8 hours working on it and it took all of 30 minutes to break it down.

The next morning we went to the famous Apple Barn restaurant for breakfast before heading home.

Over all, it was a nice trip!!

a decade

10 years ago yesterday, B and I met for the first time (and have been together ever since). A whole decade. Wow.

It's been a fun, crazy, hard, every-emotion-in-between ten years, but it has been worth every minute!

back in 03-04 in CA
I'm so thankful that I took the plunge and called my friend's boyfriend's friend (are you confused yet?) 10 Octobers ago!

I cannot wait to see what the next 10 years have in store for us!

Jack attack: 6 months!

I cannot believe my little guy has been on Earth 6 whole months...and we've all survived! ha!

It has been a fun, stressful and humbling 6 months, that's for sure!

Weight: 13.3 oz (0.09%)

The Nurse Tech called today with his lab results and all his blood work was in the normal range. He does not have Cystic Fibrosis either. Thank you Lord.

He's just small. I was small and slow to gain weight when I was a baby, so he gets it honestly I guess! We are hopeful that the weight will pick up now that he's on solids. He'll never be a "sumo" baby, and I'm fine with that!

Breast milk (on demand and two 5 oz bottles while he's at school), oatmeal, carrots, sweet potatoes and squash! He started peas yesterday and actually likes them! He'll start green beans in a few days. Then we're onto fruits!

I'm debating with myself on whether or not to introduce a bottle or two of formula (1/2 form/bm) for the extra calories. It's a hard decision and one that there's really no right answer too which stinks.

Height: (27%)

Head Circumference: (10%)
He's got a peanut...I forget how big though!

-babbling more (different sounds...almost says "dada")
-reaches for objects and people (and your dogs!)
-started "army crawling" for objects you really wants
-sleeps 8+ hours a night now! (Hallelujah!)
 -moves objects in between hands
-we are working on sitting up independently but you're not there yet!

-hotel stay
hotel in Memphis TN
-meeting your extended family
-first wedding (and you did not make a peep!)
-first trip to Gatlinburg, TN!

-jumping in the jump-a-roo! (You sometimes put one leg down and spins...hilarious!)
-the exersaucer that your grandma gave you
-grabbing everything you are not supposed to grab!
-bath time now that you can sit up in your tub and kick the water!
-rolling around the house

-being confined in a chair/swing for more than a few minutes
-Bactrim (antibiotic that tastes funky I guess!)

We love you more with every day!!

mom guilt

Working mom vs stay-at-home mom. Formula vs Breast feeding. Vaccinate vs. Not vaccinate. Etc. Etc. There are so many choices a Mom must make and it's beyond overwhelming.

I've read/heard (I mean, who hasn't by now) that breast milk is recommended and "best" for babies. I figured I'd try the whole breast feeding thing, but was totally OK with formula. I was formula fed and turned out alright (all things considering!)!

Jack was born healthy. I was thrilled. He and I figured out the whole breast feeding thing out pretty quickly, so I just stuck with it. I kept saying "well, I've made it this far...might as well keep going." I have no time frame in mind, I just literally take it day-by-day. So far it has worked well.

Or so I thought.

Jack has always been slow to gain weight. He's been on the bottom of the percentage chart from day one. He stayed on his growth curve for a few months, so the Dr was not concerned.

However, yesterday at his 6 month check up he dropped significantly. He went from the 4-10% to 0.9%. His height stalled a bit too. Needless to say, his Dr and I are concerned.

She ordered blood work and a urine sample to make sure it's nothing more serious. Let me just tell you that it's the worst thing in the entire world seeing your baby scream bloody murder as he gets poked and prodded and you can't do a single thing to help comfort. It was even more awful because his "good" vessel blew and so they had to stick him again in his hand.

so thankful for the smile even after all those tears!
Oh and to top it off he probably has MRSA that I gave him (I had an infected bug bite two weeks ago). He is on two types of medicines to help with that which of course he hates.

So yeah....I'm totally feeling major mom guilt.

Is my child tiny because I'm not providing enough calories in my milk? Should I supplement? Increase his solids (he gets 3 "meals" a day)? Could I have done more to prevent him from getting the MRSA (We're not even sure it is that yet though)??

I just want to do what's best for my son yet it's sooo hard to know what that is at this point. Prayer and advice from family/friends is all I really have to go on.

The Dr told me to continue nursing on demand and increase his solids (he eats 2.5 tbsps of oatmeal and at least two 2.5 jars of veggies which we're increasing).  We will discuss what our next plan of action is after the results come back.

This whole mothering thing is not for sissies!

oh lord!

As of a few months ago, Ben and I are officially LANDLORDS!

We honestly didn't know if we wanted to put our house on the market just yet and did not have the time to make some market ready updates. Thanfully we do not have to pay rent here in Nashville, so it didn't make us "rushed" to sell/rent. I did not want to list it on Craigslist and just basically put it in God's hands. If it was meant to rent out, we'd find the right people.

B's friend texted us and said that he had a buddy who needed a house to rent in our area. I contacted the guy and soon after they were renting it from us! It's sweet a couple with no kids or pets...ah-some!

We went down a couple weeks ago to check in on the house and it was so strange to see another persons' stuff in our house! The house looked great and we are beyond happy to have such great people taking care of it!

While we were in town, we made several trips to see some of our friends. We also went to visit both of our old jobs and introduced Jack-man to everyone! He was on his best behavior the entire time! I wish we could have stayed longer, but we had to get back home for work.

Sweet Aimee and AR!
hanging out in a park in Memphis

Jack enjoying his first hotel stay!

finally meeting his Uncle Steve and his Memphis PD family

I never thought I'd be a landlord at such a young age, but at least it gives me an excuse to see my friends and grub on some good Memphis food!
