he ought to be in pictures!

A few weeks ago, we had Jack's "six" month pictures. He was actually 7 months, but whatever!

Here are a few of my favorite shots:
(these are the ones from facebook, so they're not full sized/quality)

The photographer wanted to incorporate something that has to do with police in a few shots. I'm not usually game for using B's job as props (no offense, but Jack will not be wearing a baby uniform etc) but thought what the heck. The tape was just enough to be cute, but not too cheesy! Plus, he got to wear the cute police shirt again.

(I wonder though, if B was a garbage man, would we pose with garbage?! Hmmm!!)

Of course, he liked eating the tape!

Swinging on our porch swing! (I doctored it on accident and made it a "cinema" frame...I like it!)

my boys!

We didn't get a good shot for our Christmas cards (I look so tired in the traditional photos of us), but overall I'm in love with these!

Good Morning!

I'm not a morning person. I have never been a morning person. I need sleep or else I'm not a nice person.

Motherhood did not change this fact. I've adapted (I mean, we're still married aren't we!) and thankfully J is on a pretty good sleeping schedule.

That all said, this morning has made me a morning person!!

Jack (after waking up crying at 12 and finally going back down by 1) woke up smiling and singing in his crib. I love watching him on the monitor (I can hear him through the walls), because he's so cute playing/talk to his hands etc.
my hunk-o-love

I let him sing for a minute then went in to get him. Of course, momma dog Memphis, joined me. Jack's face lit up when he saw both of us his dog!

(I admit that I was a tad jealous that he smiled bigger for her than me, but whatever. I mean, I'd like to see her change his diaper or nurse him, but that's beside the point!)

Every morning, I (or B brings him to me) get Jack and take him back into our bed to nurse. Ben was still, somewhat, asleep.
As soon as Jack saw B, he smiled realllllllly big and said "Da-da"!!!

Ben's and my face instantly lit up and I may or may not have cried. Heck, I'm tearing up now! Jack's said "Dada" for a while now, but never in proper context. It was the absolute sweetest thing.

He totally makes mornings GOOD.

Chef boy is he cute!

Last week Ben decided he wanted to try his hand at cooking. I was surprised but told him to "knock himself out"! He opted to make a "bison chilli" and it was quite delicious. He made enough to feed an entire army, and we ate more chili that week than I have my entire life! Maybe next time he wont use 54 oz of tomatoes!!!

I 've jokingly referred to him as my "chef boy is he cute, b/c lets face it your man in the kitchen sure is cute!!

This weekend, he wanted to make a beef stew. he researched it and decided on a "old fashion stew" recipe. After he prepped (he joked "like Paula Deen's show"!) all of the ingredients (fresh thyme/rosemary even), he got started. Our house still smells heavenly.

It was relatively easy and roughly took 2 hours total. So worth the wait!

Here's the recipe:

I'm so glad Ben decided to start cooking! He's quite good too!! I can't wait to see what he cooks up next.

Thanksgiving 2012 (and my bday too!)

This Thanksgiving was one for the books! It was also my birthday, so it made it a tad sweeter! I was actually born on Thanksgiving, and it usually falls every 7 or so years.  I tend to make my bday last a week or so, but not this year. I kinda forgot all about it! (Never thought I would say that either!) Thankfully my boys did not forget. They surprised me with gorgeous flowers and sweet cards (and a gift card!). Ben literally woke up at 5 am to get these flowers out of the hiding spot, so I would see them as soon as I woke up! Sweet guy!

my boys surprised me with these beautiful flowers...loved the vase!!

We also started a new family tradition and made a lot of memories!

We ran/walk in the "Borodash 4 Miler" on Thanksgiving morning. I haven't walked in a few weeks, but I did better than I thought. Ben walked with us for the first two miles and then ran the last two. I actually ran a few intervals which is a first! My parents and SIL/nephew joined as well. It was such a great way to start the day o' food!

my sidekick sure is cute!

after the race!
After the race, we headed to my brother's house for mimosas and muffins. I made chocolate chip pumpkin muffins and my SIL had a lovely cinnamon bundt cake.

For lunch, we headed to B's Aunt's house. I left the dessert I was supposed to bring and my camera. Fail. Thankfully there was plenty of sweets, and wonderful food. After we ate lunch, Ben decided to take his (second) cousins outside and play doge ball. I swear I have a 32 year old child!!!

That evening, we headed to my parents for my birthday/Thanksgiving dinner. My mom opted to make
turkey Madeira  and it was delicious! I requested green bean casserole and deviled eggs for my bday and they didn't disappoint.

family!

This Pilgrim had such a fun Thanksgiving!

After supper, we read the Black Friday ads and played Bingo!!

gobble gobble

It's no secret that I love Thanksgiving. I was born (11/22) on Thanksgiving, so that might have something to do with it, I'm not sure!! Anyways....there is just something about being with one's family and friends that makes me haappy. A blog I've started reading has a "show and tell" and it's all about Thanksgiving this time. So here ya go:

1. Tell us about your family traditions for Thanksgiving

The  years past went like this:
-wake up and hope that the parade is still on (The ability to sleep in was sooo nice!)
-lunch with Ben's family
-Supper with my family at my parents house

This year, we're starting a new tradition that I hope continues:
-wake up EARLY and run/walk in the "Turkey Trot" with my parents and Bro/Sil (this should be fun since I haven't walked in a few weeks!)
-mimosas and muffins at my bro/SILs after our 4 miler
-Lunch with B's family
-a non traditional supper at my parents (turkey marsala I believe)

2. Tell us about your favorite foods
 3 words:
Green Bean Casserole

Need I say more?!

3. Show us a picture that reminds you of this holiday

  Nothing says Thanksgiving like family.

We don't normally take a lot of photos at Thanksgiving, but this year that is going to change.

4. Tell us, do you wait to decorate for Christmas before or after Thanksgiving?
It's a mortal sin (ha!) to decorate before Thanksgiving 'round here!! You gotta give the Pilgrims and turkey a chance to shine. (Yes, I have several Pilgrims out!)

5. Tell us what you are thankful for this year
Too much really.

Jack, our families, our health and for jobs we love.....

 Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!

very jane equal very cute

I ran into Tarjay last night to get a much needed cup of peppermint hot cocoa and saw a lady with the most adorable boot socks-ever. I asked her where she got them and she hooked me up an awesome website called "Veryjane.com". I never heard of it, but it's basically like a "groupon" site but for Etsy stores. Awesome!!

Of course I immediately signed up and one of the deals for today was the most adorable reusable snack bags. I know we're a couple months out from needing them for Jack, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Good deal, cute product and all while being "green"...can't go wrong with that!

I got the whales and the numbers!!

I am probably the last person on Earth to hear about this site, but just in case I'm not I wanted to share!

Any other good savings sites out there???

(I didn't get bribed into posting this. I honestly never heard of it til Saturday and think it's a great site, so I had to share!)

sweat baby sweat! (updated!)

At Jack's 6 month appointment, the Doctor was concerned about his growth (or lack thereof). She ordered a ton of blood work. All the blood work came back in the normal range. She also wanted him to get a "sweat chloride" test to rule out Cystic Fibrosis.

When the nurse tech called about his initial blood work results, I assumed (wrongly) that it included the CF test. It, of course, did not. We had to go to Vanderbilt in order to get this test done.

The test was today and to be honest, I was a tad nervous. Ben, Jack and I arrived earld and were sent back to the sweat test room promptly. A tech came in and made us watch a video about the test and CF before she performed the test.

The test consisted of:

1. cleaned the area on both arms (forearm and bicep area)
2. placed a copper cuff type thing (with electrode) on for 5 minutes to generate heat (it tingles but doesn't hurt)
3. took electrodes off
4. put a clean cloth on (that the sweat will leak onto), wrapped it with a clear wrap
5. put a warming packet over the wrap and then wrapped that

he looked like Popeye with those wrapped "muscles"
We then had to walk around for 30 minutes to generate sweat. He wore his jacket and was against us the entire time to help speed up the process. By the end of the 30 minutes, I was sweating too!! Vanderbilt Children's hospital is an awesome place that I hope we never really see ever again (well, besides Dr's appts).

Jack hated being "tied" down with the electrodes, but he did so well. No fussing and minimum squirming!! He loved walking around and talking to everyone.

We should get the results back tomorrow and I doubt I'll sleep well tonight. My gut feeling says that he's perfectly fine, but I'm still worried. I know God is in control and that makes me feel so much better.

RESULTS are in: NEGATIVE!!! He's GOOD!!! Woohooo! Praise the Lord.

parades and pictures!!

This past Sunday my family, Jack and I attended our town's Veteran's day parade. Ben worked midnights, so he needed to sleep in a bit and was unable to join. He's a Veteran so I gave him a pass! ha!

It was a beautiful 73 degree day and perfect for a parade. There was a great turn out and it was quite long which was nice.
nephew #2 doing his hardest keeping his helmet on!

he's proud to be an American!

Jack loved looking at all the people (especially the clowns) and was perplexed by the motorcycles. After about half of the parade, he had enough and decided to sleep while his Millie held him. Such a rough life he lives.

enjoying his first parade!
After the parade, we all went back to my parents house to take family pictures and of course eat supper. My  mom's friend came over and snapped a few before it got dark. It meant a lot to my mom to get a group shot and she wanted us all in plaid. What momma wants, momma gets!

cousinly love!

We stuffed ourselves with fried chicken, corn and lots of yummy stuff. I joked that it's like Thanksgiving came early.

There's nothing better than spending time with one's family!

Jack attack: 7 months

(7 months and 1 week)

Cannot believe we're over the half year mark already. This has truly been my most favorite month thus far!!

Height: ? (probably 26+)

Weight: 13 llbs 12 oz  (at your sick appointment 11/6...down 2 oz from 11/5)

Diet:
Nursing on demand (roughly 4-5 times), 2 bottles at school and fruits/veggies/oatmeal. We have not introduced peaches yet since your dad was really allergic to them as a baby. One day your mom will be brave enough to try them!

You've been really sick this past week (double ear infections, virus, high fever, congestion, and the meds made you sick to your stomach...it's been rough), so you've been on the BRATS diet and drinking/syringe fed Pedialite.

We will introduce one bottle of formula per day to see if that helps bulk you!

We actually go to a GI specialist (and nutritionist) in a few weeks, so hopefully we can figure your weight issues out!

Clothing:

You're all over the map in this department. You can still wear some 3 month short sleeved shirts, but have to wear 6-9 month long sleeved. Pants are tricky b/c the 3-6 months fit best in waist, but are high waters! Poor guy. You're still in a size 2 diaper.
3-6 mo shirt...sleeves are no 3/4 length...oops!

Sleep:
You mostly sleep through the night!! You go down between 8-9 and usually sleep til 7-8. Some nights you wake up around 2-3, but I usually nurse you and you go right back down until the morning!

I'm trying to teach you the art of sleeping in, especially on the weekends. :-)

Milestones:

-you can now sit up all by yourself!!!! Dad and I worked with you for a few weeks and then all of a sudden, you were doing it on your own! So proud.

-you can also get down (with no fussing) all by yourself once you're seated. You'd rather roll around and get into things!

-a tad separation anxiety, but in general you LOVE people!

-talking non stop! You can say "dada" but wont say it on demand (much to your dad's dismay)!. Since you've been sick, you started saying "mamamama"....hopefully soon you can realize that's my name too!!

We love you to the moon and back!!!

gone country

My Granny lived in a small, country town here in TN. The kind of small town that everyone is either related or has known everyone else from day one. My dad left that town when he went to college, but obviously we went back often to visit my Granny.

It's a peaceful setting. There's hardly cellphone reception and of course no internet, so it's a great get away. There's cows, donkey, farms etc all within a mile of her house. After my Granny died, I was hoping we could continue going up there. I really wanted Jack to explore the "country".

Thankfully, my parents fixed my Granny's house up (it had seen better days) and it is now our "country house"! We'll go up often either for the day or weekend and hopefully have family events there.

This past weekend, my parents took Jack and me to see the progress. Ben works midnights, so he had to stay home.

We had such a fun time. We didn't do much and that was the entire point!

exploring the leaves!

Ms. Lorene! She's 93 and doing great!
We stopped by and visited one of my Granny's friends. I've grown up visiting her, so it was nice seeing her again and introducing her to Jack. Her husband was Jack too, so that made her day!

only in the country!
We made a trip into town to get a few items at Wal=Mart. I think I've seen it all!

Some days, it's great to "go country"!

Boo to you!

Jack's first Halloween is in the books and it was a fun one!

excited about Halloween!

We went with our friends around their neighborhood since we really don't live in one ourselves. Ben had to work, so he was unable to join us which was a bummer. There's always next year though.

Originally, I had planned on Jack being a "Jack in a box", but couldn't figure out how to put him in a box that I could actually carry. So....I decided to go with the "Jack o' lantern". Trying to find one of those that don't cost an arm and a leg, especially 2 weeks out, is harder than I thought. I refused to pay $40+ for his costume. Not this year anyways.

a cute Jack o' lantern (the hat that came with his outfit didn't fit, so we mixed/matched)
I felt so weird asking for candy for my baby (i.e. me!!), but everyone was so nice. I didn't go to all the houses my friends' kids went too though! I know soon enough we'll have to hit 'em all, so it was nice just going to a few.
eating his bag a bit early!!

Jack LOVED it. He loved "meeting" new people and picking out his candy. Yep...he would grab the candy if they gave him the bowl. He likes Skittles apparently. Ha!!

get your own pumpkin, Memphis Girl!

Here are a few shots of him in his halloween gear...

my sweet friend made this shirt for him!

Jackbones!

I simply cannot wait til next year!
